Here we have my "Tiger Butterfly" creation. It's drawn almost entirely with colored pencils (Derwent) with a black pen used for some outlines. I've added an example of a black pencil  sketch so you can see the contrast of before (the idea) and after (the creation). It took me approximately two months to complete. I built up the picture starting with the lightest color and working towards the darker areas, with many layers of pencil on top of each other. I use Derwent pencils because they have a soft lead which enables me to blend colors together by rubbing with my fingers. Derwent pencils can be used lightly or applied heavily and polished to a shine using a finger wrapped in tissue paper.
