~*~ Mini Books ~*~

My "Special Book" collection wouldn't be complete without my "Mini Book" selection. The above books appeared in the 1960's and 70's and were all the rage for the "with-it" young working girl who needed and wanted to know everything.

I've got about 30 in my collection yet I recall there were hundreds of them. Their price was cheap, they are bright, colorful and comprehensive, with great pictures and easy to understand. What more could a girl want?

The 5 I chose to show you here are titled .......... "How to Interpret Your Dreams", "Instant letter-writing", "365 Home Hints", "How To Draw", "How To Paint" and "Instant String Games". They measure a mere 9cms x 13cms. Not too small so that I can't read the fine print. They all have 64 pages I was surprised to see.

The other 24 in my collection covers every subject I found at the time that "tickled my fancy" ....... *S* You can just imagine some of the strange topics ...... haha. I think I may have benefited from reading these little books.

All these years later I can still interpret  my dreams while writing a well written letter about how to fix everything you could possibly break or otherwise else need to do in your house. I can draw illustrations and then paint them with one hand while playing string games using the door knob and my teeth! All at the same time! True ............ I'm not spinning you a yarn! Hahahaha ........... *S*

Aren't books wonderful.

"The little book of Hand Shadows" is a cute little book. It measures a tiny 8cms x 7cms and has 78 pages. It was published in 1990 and is a reproduction of the first 1927 edition.

Two Hand Shadow puppets, A Panther and A Kangaroo.
Go on ...... give it a go, it looks easy ....... *S*

Three books to keep me absorbed for hours. There's a lot of food for thought between these interesting covers.

"Collins Gem Fact File" covers every fact and figure you could possibly ever want or need to know, (for example, the world population for a certain year, or the longest river in the world etc.)

It's a must for anyone whoever thinks .........ever ......... *S*

"The Essence of T'ai Chi" is a self explanatory title and far too deep for me to try and describe to you. It's very interesting all the same. One day I must pay more attention to this one.

"Miniature Art Masters, Rembrandt" is a work of art in itself. It measures 8cms x 11cms and has 96 pages full of exquisite Rembrandt masterpieces. The art pictures are perfect little reproductions of the originals and very clear and easy to see. It's wonderful ...... *S*

My parents gave me this book called "A Treasury of Wisdom, The Secrets of Joy". My middle name is Joy and they associated it with me, they were so sweet. Inside the little 7cms x 8.5cms book there is 128 pages full of wise sayings. Guaranteed to make you think and smile a little ......*S*

"Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls ..... A joyful heart is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love".

Two mini pop-up gems! Two of my favorite types of books in one. What a bargain. I can't show you their insides because the page picture pop-outs (try saying that fast) interfere with the scanner tray. I didn't want to squash them flat.

"This little monster plays with his food, this little monster's rather rude, this little monster wants to fight, this little monster's up all night. How many monsters in this book? Give us a kiss and have a look ......."

"Little Monsters" is a wee 7.5cms x 11cms and has ten pages of colorful ugly little cartoon faces and their mouths  stick right up from the page when you open it up. It was published in 1996 and the last monster is wanting to kiss you! (Kiss that face.......eeeuuurgh. Hang on, his glasses are reflective like a mirror and I can see my reflection in them. Oh..... hahaha, that monster is me!)

"Bytes of Wisdom" is a users guide to the world. It's measures 7cms x 8.5cms and has 14 pages. If you can't work out what the subject is from the cover here is some of the words inside.

Everyone works better with a clear memory. Always have a back-up. Don't be afraid of mice. Learn to do windows. Everyone needs to hit escape once in awhile. The words say it all but the pictures show a little computer man playing with mice or cleaning a window pane etc. It's rather subtle but cute. Computer terms and philosophy in a mini pop-up book. It can't get much better than this ...... *S*

This is the smallest book in my collection. "The Little Webster" dictionary is a tiny 3.5cms x 5cms and consists of a massive 640 pages! It's thickness is 2cms and it contains more than 7,000 words. You can see in this picture that it's smaller than a matchbox. How about that! ..... *S*
