~*~ Pop-up Books ~*~
|
When I was a child my mother used to tell me about a wonderful pop-up book belonging to her mother. It was a huge book that opened out to reveal a beautiful "old time" sailing ship with full sales, rigging, the crew......everything. It took pride of place in her home on an entrance hall side-table. Everyone who arrived at her door were surprised with the ships authenticity to detail and splendor. I would listen to my mother talk about it from her own childhood memories
of standing really close and peering into the ship......always seeing new
things, playing with the crew and joining in the fun of the hearty...YoHoHo
sing-a-longs of the rowdy pirates....all living in her imagination. Her
mother would chastise her if she was caught too close......"Don't touch
it!" was the order of the house.
How I wished I could look at it too. |

| What can I say? I love my Pop-up books....*S* I was fortunate to become
friends with a woman who worked in a book store. It was close to my house
and every time I needed to go to the local shops for anything I'd drop
in and check out the new books. Once I became interested in purchasing
pop-up books my friend would keep them under the counter, phone me to say
they were there, then keep them until I had the chance of seeing them first.
She did this because they sold very quickly and this way I didn't miss
out. What a great friend....what a good business woman...*S*
When I first started there weren't many pop-up books available. It wasn't a costly venture because it was only one book every now and then. Over a few years they became popular and I was presented with 5 to 10 new books each time. Goodness me...such temptation...but all that money. Alas it got to the stage where I just had to stop. I could not buy every new one I found like I did to start with. It drove me NUTS! All that temptation. So I stopped. Guess what happened? Everyone I knew loved my collection as well and so every now and then for a present someone gave me a pop-up book. My parents were wonderful for this for birthdays and xmas. Or for anytime they saw one and thought....."Neeny would love this". They were such wonderful parents......*S* |
