Wild Eyed

"I can't believe I'm doing this....!"
I moaned and sat down
The noise of calliope music
Drowning out my protest
And excited chatter from the crowd

I wanted to leave
Just get up and go
But knew it was too late
When the car moved real slow
Up and up until it crested the top
"Oh oh!" I groaned
Knowing it was too late to stop

The force of the first swoop
Drove me back into my seat
Nothing but empty air
Pushing under my feet
With eyes squeezed shut
And my lips pulled back tight
My face an ashen mask
A reflection of fright

"I won't scream ..... I won't!"
I vowed to myself
As we ascended the next rise
And I started to choke
Before me I saw
Just what was in store
Two huge loops and then we were there

Up and around
I stared at the ground
Wind rushing by
I hung upside down

We slid to a halt
And everyone got out
I stood by myself
Wild eyed and gasping
I wanted to shout ......
"No way am I going on that thing again,
I don't care .....
You can't make me .....
So there .... !"

"You'll be all right mum!"
Said my young son by my side
As he took my hand and coaxed me along
"Let's do it again ...... yeah
That was so much fun ......
This roller coaster ride ......
Is my favourite one!"
