A Writer's Prayer

Please God always give me books
Please God give me the eyes to look
Into my hand put pen and scroll
Steady my hand when I grow old
Upon my heart place the wisdom to know better
Upon my soul the magical use of the letter
I engrave these words on my resting place
To forever move forward through time and space

I read these words with my torch held high
The engravings so shallow and worn away by time
I have found a tomb of a long lost scribe
I was bought here by the Kabantram tribe
While I ventured forth to explore
The tribesmen would not enter the door
This tomb I'm in is as old as this cave
A monumental find is this ancient grave

A writer's prayer of unknown origin
To disturb him now would be a terrible sin
So I'll leave him rest and close the rock door
With his words etched on my mind forever more
