The Mermaid's Song

I walked along a dark beach last night,
The stars above were a twinkling delight,
My mind was quite clear for a change,
The wind blew cobwebs from my brain.
I liked the sound of the crashing waves,
My sunburnt face was cooled by spray,
I found a cave and decided to explore,
I left my footprints on the sandy floor.
I ventured further in and found,
I was listening to an unearthly sound,
A song so wonderful and clear,
Was the beautiful sound I could hear.
It lifted my spirits and hypnotized,
Purity of pitch brought tears to my eyes,
I sighed as I saw a wonderful sight,
A mermaid of beautiful dazzling delight.
She sat upon a rock oblivious to me,
I watched her as I barely dared to breathe,
On the side of a shimmering watery hole,
Forever my heart from me she stole.
Hearing my heart beat she looked up with a
shock,
As quick as a blink she was off her rock,
With a leap she mounted her wild Seahorse,
They dived into that hole on a downward course.
I ran over and stared into the depths,
With no further thought I leapt,
I had to follow my heart you see,
And now I live with her under the sea.
