The Old Dunny Door

You won't believe what we had to go through,
Living out in the Australian bush,
Our toilets were usually way down the back yard,
And we had to share it with our mum's chooks.

Now you might think that this's very funny,
But while we were doing our thing,
The night would be dark and quite scarey,
And dad's old cow would push in!

One night I shoved with my feet held straight out,
Against the rickety old dunny door,
I watched with horror as they went right through,
And it fell with a crash to the floor.

I'll admit I laughed when I saw them,
From the roof a family of possums peared in,
Hearing the crash of the dunny door falling,
I'd awoken them with the clatter and din.

"Shoo shoo, go away!", I yelled to this group,
"Stop staring like that at me"!
They got a fright and jumped into the night,
While the roof fell down around my knees.

I sat there on my exposed throne,
Butt naked to the cold starry night,
I can't help but laugh when I think of this now,
A true tale ..... an old bushwacker's delight.
